Car Talk: The Voice-Powered Racing Game for Kids
Car Talk is a silly racing game where your voice is the controller. Say “Yum!”, “Yuck!”, “Left!”, “Right!” and “Stop!” to steer a little car down the road. No buttons, no joysticks, and no pressure. It plays right in your browser, so there is nothing to download or install.
What is Car Talk?
Car Talk is the first game from Comfy Compass, made by Wero, a Toronto-based games studio. It was designed for children who experience selective mutism or speaking anxiety, but anyone who enjoys shouting “YUM!” at a screen can play. Every sound moves the car, so every sound is a small win.
Why we made it
Selective mutism is an anxiety-based condition. Children can speak comfortably in some settings, like home, but find it very hard to speak in others, like school or around new people. Support often involves gentle, gradual practice of making sounds and words in low-stakes situations. Car Talk is built around that idea: speaking becomes part of the game instead of a demand. The car responds, the game cheers, and the child sees that their voice makes things happen.
How it plays
- Level 1: Yum / Yuck. Say “Yum!” to go and “Yuck!” to swerve away from obstacles.
- Level 2: Left / Right. Steer through twisty roads with simple directional commands.
- Level 3: Left / Right / Stop. Juggle all three commands and master the road.
